On September 24, 2015, Sonoma Millworks hosted a continuing education seminar for the Redwood Empire Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture. Each AIA architect received 3 CE units for their participation. Among the highlights of the seminar were discussions on sourcing and specifying reclaimed lumber, innovations in upcycling and repurposing and common pitfalls to avoid. The attendees were also introduced to our very own reclaimed product – this one with a winery back story: VinoPlank™ stole the show! It was obvious that the creative minds in the room were in overdrive. Other highlights included a demonstration on the Hundegger K1 (a CAD driven joinery machine from Germany.) Traditional timber frame joinery can be precisely and efficiently fabricated on this machine. This substantially cuts down on material waste and eliminates mistakes on the job site.
